• Normal, AlabamaThe TRIO Upward Bound Program at Alabama A&M University seeks an Upward Bound Assessment Advisor that will ensure that administrative records are appropriately managed, preserved, secured, and can be retrieved as needed. The TRIO Upward Bound Assessment Advisor will work closely with the Academic Counselor to maintain and produce accurate academic records for audit and other purposes needed to provide career, educational, personal, academic and financial aid assessment opportunities to program participants. The Assessment Advisor will also assist with data entry and accurate file maintenance of lesson plans and programs by making sure all files and program participant documentation is accurate and up-to-date for new and continuing student participants. This is a grant-funded position.
Summary of Job Duties
Participate in the assessment of academic records, pre-college portfolios, and accurate data documentation for each participant using grade reports, individual meeting assessments, and input from the tutoring program and AAMU Upward Bound Academic Counselor.
Assist with Identifying and recruiting eligible participants that meet federal guidelines in target areas for Upward Bound services.
Administers and analyzes a variety of tests such as career interest inventories, and academic needs assessments.
Assist AAMU Upward Bound Instructors and Program Assistants in developing and maintaining academic lesson plans and projects.
Maintains accurate academic records and files on student participants.
Assist in the preparation of semi-annual and annual reports to the U.S. Department of Education.
Maintains file hardware, software, and paper files of participants.
Responsible for tracking participants' academic progress including nine week grades, semester grades, and annual standardized test scores.
Participates in visits to target high schools.
Works closely with target school guidance counselors.
Ability to maintain paper and electronic files accurately.
Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork.
Other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in education, counseling, social work, psychology or related field, from an accredited institution or the equivalent combination of education and experience - Preferably as a teacher, counselor or program coordinator.
Understanding of database operations, such as the BLUMEN software database.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Flexibility and Initiative. Ability to take direction, prioritize, and work independently.
Experience in serving underrepresented populations in higher education.
