The purpose of the position will be to provide a broad training experience outlining the YMCA's mission and its impact on the community and the associated non-profit operational practices/procedures that support these efforts. Specific health and wellness focused training, tasks and special projects will provide practical and real life experience with all areas of non-profit fitness and personal training operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
You will learn to:
1. Serve as a role model to members and Y staff and demonstrate the YMCA mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
2. Learn about creating a personal training environment while transforming participants into personal training clients.
3. Assist in goal maintenance and record keeping.
4. Adhere to, model and enforces facility policies.
5. Gain knowledge and skills on professionally interacting with members and discover sales techniques to promote yourself as a personal trainer.
6. Gain the ability to train to all abilities and provide modifications for those looking for higher/lower intensity and ensure all clients feel welcome and appreciated.
7. Stay within scope of practice with all exercise and nutrition recommendations.
8. Obtain overall experience of YMCA/non-profit business model by shadowing in various departments.
9. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations of the SCFY including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
10. Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. Background in Recreational Management, Physical Therapy, Exercise Science, Non-profit Management or other related discipline.
2. Strong communication skills.
3. Ability to perform some
4. Proficient in Microsoft Suite Office.
5. Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
6. Interest in nonprofit management and community development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position is expected to be able to successfully perform all physical activities necessary to perform essential and related functions of the position including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. This position is expected to be able to demonstrate all training aspects of a workout which can be described as medium to strenuous work and will vary by client. Must be able to frequently lift a minimum of 45 pounds efficiently and safely. While performing the duties of the job, the intern is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The intern will regularly be required to see at close and distant vision, have good peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
PROJECT ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of the job, the intern will primarily work indoors and regularly be exposed to moderate temperatures and perform work near moving mechanical parts (associated with physical fitness equipment). The noise level can vary from quiet to moderate depending upon the usage and activity in the rooms in which they are working.
