DEFINITION: This position is Responsible for the daily activities required to run, maintain, and service the facility and/or the events by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Manages subordinate supervisors in any of the following departments: Changeover, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Operations, Production, Engineering, Carpenters, Electricians, Plumbers, Technical Services, Event Services, Public Safety, and Security. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

TASKS:
  • Assists the director in directing, supervising and scheduling all aspects of operations, including engineering; building and grounds; technical services; event services, including ADA compliance; public safety; security; and custodial services.
  • Coordinates the operations activities with other building departments and show-related contractors.
  • Implement facility rules, regulation policies and procedures.
  • Anticipate problems and appropriate solutions. Investigates, analyzes and resolves operational problems and complaints.
  • Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments.
  • Ensures that operations department receives pertinent information for most effective use of the facility and staffing.
  • Assures facility readiness and smooth operation of events.
  • Oversees maintenance of the physical plant and systems.
  • Responsible for the Master MSDS log in the building.
  • Serves as Manager on Duty as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree from technical college with major in Management or Maintenance Engineering.

Minimum of 2 years experience in Supervising or Managing in a similar facility

Additional experience may be substituted for education

Supervisory experience preferred

Ability to understand and communicate orally and in writing and written instructions

Knowledge of cleaning equipment and supplies and have a Valid Alaska Driver's License

Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member and to be an effective supervisor

Requires the ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which will include weekends and holidays. Work hours may range from very early morning to late night. On rare occasion, must be able to work additional hours, weekends, overnight or extended stays, as business demands, with prior notice. Work is primarily indoors. Some outdoor work (such as snow removal and building maintenance) may be required. Environments may range from very warm to freezing. Work will be performed in many different areas of the Center and off-premise. Work will involve a considerable amount of walking throughout a 100,000 sq. ft. facility, lifting, and other high-exertion activities. Potentially dangerous chemicals and equipment will be encountered daily during the course of work. May require frequently lifting materials weighing up to 25-100 lbs. Must be able to work in a crowded, high-activity, high-demand environment. Flexibility is required, as to the ability to meet all requests upon demand. Duties require the use of considerable initiative, creativity, judgment, problem-solving, and working under minimal direction. Requires attention to detail, logical reasoning, ability to formulate ideas and opinions, ability to handle multiple priorities, ability to anticipate needs of the company, ability to implement short- and long-term solutions to needs, ability to plan and implement projects, ability to resolve customer service issues. Requires working under deadlines or pressure, dealing with difficult people or situations involving complex issues, and establishing and maintaining cooperative and productive work relationships. Must have outgoing, positive attitude in dealing with clientele and employees.
