SURGERY COORDINATOR

  • JOB SUMMARY
    Working under the supervision of the Ambulatory Clinic Manager, schedules diagnostic and surgical procedures for clinic patients including but not limited to: radiology, cardiopulmonary, sleep, physical therapy, occupational therapy, infusion therapy, pre-surgical and surgical services. Coordinates and assures all patient referrals to outside providers are communicated and documented for continuity of care. Performs preauthorization for targeted procedures, testing, and medical equipment including, but not limited to, surgeries, allergy testing, and hearing aids to attain maximum reimbursement and patient satisfaction. Coordinates postoperative appointment scheduling. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
    • Accurately assembles all pertinent and documents patient information when scheduling surgical and diagnostic procedures
    • Verifies and pre-authorizes select diagnostic and surgical procedures ordered by clinic providers
    • Provides superior ongoing patient satisfaction and customer service
    • Demonstrates efficient time management and prioritization skills
    • Communicates with patients in a timely and concise manner regarding procedures/attaining services and related information needed
    • Cross-trained and competent in all Registration Specialist and Health Records Specialists duties when assigned
    • Actively participates in the Ambulatory Clinic Quality Program
    • Adheres to CCMH policies and procedures.
    • Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
    • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Manages the referral process for clinic providers
  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS
    • Education: High school graduate or GED, computer training, medical terminology (within 1 year of hire).
    • Licensure: None
    • Certifications required: See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
    • Experience: 1 year medical office scheduling experience preferred
    • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Computer skills
    • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work with staff and physicians. Able to communicate positively in stressful situations.
    • Essential Physical Requirements: Sitting, typing, speaking clearly on the telephone.
    • Essential Mental Abilities: Able to attend to multiple details simultaneously. Logically solve operational problems under stress. Able to read, write, and understand English.
    • Essential Sensory Requirements: Corrected vision, hearing to normal range.
    • Exposure to Hazards: OSHA CATEGORY I. TASK THAT INVOLVES EXPOSURE TO BLOOD, BODY FLUIDS, OR TISSUES. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I Tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I Tasks.
    • Hours of Work: 8 or 10 hour shifts or as determined by demands of Clinics
