• Opelika, AlabamaSummary: Provides substance abuse prevention services which target parents, families and "high risk" children and adolescents. Provides consultation and education to consumers and other agencies within the community. May provide clinical and/or case management services to consumers and families, as qualified.
Prevention Services: Provides prevention services that target "high risk" children and families. Designs and implements programs which focus on building individual, family, and community strengths in order to counteract the negative factors which place individuals at risk for substance abuse. Works in conjunction with schools, institutions, and agencies in the four county catchment area. Prevention work includes in-school, after-school, and summer programs at a variety of locations (Head Start centers, schools, Boys and Girls clubs, detention facilities, etc.). May also include work with area businesses, civic organizations, and local governmental agencies in the development and implementation of environmental strategies designed to impact the incidence and prevalence of substance abuse in the general population. Provides social skills, employment, and life skills training to targeted groups. Conducts family strengthening programs, which provide education and support to families (families are referred through a variety of community agencies). Follows educational curriculums as assigned.
Consultation and Education Services: Provides educational programs for the community on mental health topics. Provides community education and information regarding Mental Health Center services. Provides consultation to other agencies regarding "high risk" children and adolescents. May assist teachers and/or counselors in the development of student behavior management programs designed to increase adaptive behavior and reduce maladaptive behavior.
Bachelor's or master's degree in a human services field preferred. Prevention experience and certification (through the Alabama Alcohol and Drug Association) preferred.
