Position Function:
To assist the classroom teacher/instructor in all aspects of classroom operation.
Prerequisites:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Documentation of three (3) references and known in the community to be of good reputation.
- Satisfactory certification of Community CPR.
- Must be able to write on a 10th grade level.
- Documentation of satisfactory criminal record check per LA. R.S. 5:5871.
- Must provide health records including TB test, and documentation of good health and physically able to care for children and every 3 years thereafter.
- To posses the ability to lift children under the age of 6 years and the ability to get down to and up from the floor.
Supervisory Responsibilities - None
Specific Duties:
- To assist the teacher/instructor with classroom duties as directed.
- To help children progress in all developmental areas.
- To provide individual and small group activities with children and actively facilitate learning through play.
- To supervise and interact with children during less structured times such as: exploratory play, toileting, lunch, snack, and outdoor play.
- To respond to the class as the situation dictates in emergency situations.
- To assist the teacher/instructor in plans and preparations for classroom activities.
- To assist the teacher/instructor in maintaining the classroom and the materials in clean, orderly and safe manner.
- To maintain any paperwork required daily in the teacher’s absence.
- To be familiar with each child’s developmental levels and appropriate activities to work to facilitate each.
- To follow the daily schedule provided and assume the leadership of the classroom in the absence of the teacher/instructor.
- To be responsible for ensuring, along with the teacher, proper storage and return of any medication administered to children in your classroom.
- To respond quickly in a soothing and tender manner to cries or calls of distress.
- To respond consistently to needs for food and comfort.
- To adhere to all Goldman procedures, including those addressing discipline, child abuse/neglect and confidentiality.
- To keep Center Manager informed of materials and supplies on hand and the need for replenishing.
- To be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of Goldman children and families.
- To be willing to adhere to professional code of conduct which includes no elaborate jewelry at work, no long fingernails which present health and safety risks to children and no use of cell phones while in the classroom.
- To demonstrate cultural competency and ability to work with diverse groups of individuals, to include persons with developmental disabilities.
- To be willing to participate in the Louisiana Pathways and Quality Star systems and achieve a satisfactory score in order for the Center to maintain our stars.
