A. Mission and Scope
Provides specialized supervision and guidance to camp attendees; primarily ages 9-18 in large groups. The Counselor will organize, plan, and execute activities that are educational in nature, in addition to providing supervision and assistance to trainees that are arriving or departing from the USSRC. The Counselor will be expected to assist the trainee with airport ticketing and check-in procedures, navigating TSA security check points, and assisting with baggage claim and filing lost luggage forms.
Job duties will take place at both the USSRC's main campus and at the Huntsville International Airport. This position reports to the AED Coordinator and the appropriate Camp Director.
B. Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma.
Experience: Experience working with children (e.g., coaching, tutoring, teaching). Previous experience in a similar educational, instructional camp, military experience, or summer camping. Must possess excellent communication skills; positive role model. Must exhibit strong leadership skills. Preferable: Previous experience with airport travel, especially using Huntsville International Airport

Other Special Requirements
- Valid Driver's License and good driving record
- Dependable means of transportation
- Ability to adapt to required dress code
- Must pass drug and alcohol test, pre-employment attitude assessment, complete Affidavit of Good Moral Character, clear the State Central Registry on Child Abuse/Neglect upon employment, and other tests and background checks required by management
- Must be able to pass the TSA Sterile Area security clearance at the Huntsville International Airport
1. This position has the following special requirements:
- Walking and climbing (stairs, hills, and wooded terrain) to access other departments and experience all areas of the training environment
- Standing for long periods of time (4-6 hrs) or for duration of shift instructing or assisting at the airport
- Carrying and lifting equipment, supplies, and objects up to 50 lbs. waist high
- Bending, kneeling and reaching to store & retrieve supplies and luggage
- The ability to see to give instructional tours through the museum and other areas of the facility and campus
- The ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, guests, trainees and employees in person and over the telephone
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment in hot summer temperatures (should not exceed 105° F heat index)
- Ability to wake up early, example 2AM, or stay up late, example 11PM, for airport pick-ups or drop-offs
- Must be available to work any shift as required

- Escort and accompany trainees at all times to scheduled activities, maintaining orderly behavior and professional learning environment
- Attend to any personal difficulties encountered by trainees, such as illness, contact with parents, loss of personal items, etc
- Ensure transportation arrangements are confirmed through EALD Coordinator and communicated to trainee
- Serve as positive professional role model for trainees
- Wake up duty, breakfast duty, lunch duty, lights out duty, Early Arrival/Late Departure (EALD) care, airport duties, and support other activities during normal hours
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- $8.50 or $9.50 base pay;
- 4 days of training; paid hourly;
- Weekend: Friday & Saturday (3:00am-11pm), Sunday (6:30am-3pm)
- When working airport duties there is a possibility of 4am Departures at the earliest, which changes start time of shift
- Counselors may be scheduled for 0- 40 hours or more per week if availability allows
- Time-and-a-half after 40 hours worked per week
