Technical Training Specialist

Position Summary
The Technical Training Specialist plays a critical role for Plug Power’s Field Service organization as they will be responsible for developing technical training in the areas of fuel cell system troubleshooting, repair and cryogenic industrial gas system operation and maintenance. As such, the ability to communicate ideas, concepts and course materials both accurately and clearly will be key to this position. The ideal candidate must have excellent writing and editing skills, while also exhibiting exceptional time management skills. This position requires a strong background in technical troubleshooting in both electro-mechanical and industrial gas systems. The Technical Training Specialist will also provide training related to work safety and OSHA standards to ensure that employees are focused upon safe work operations.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver technical training instruction in a variety of mediums and settings including: classroom, in-field, virtual and remote training instruction
  • Cultivate and maintain technical expertise surrounding Plug Power products and systems
  • Perform training assessments to ensure all training objectives are met; includes conducting needs analysis, developing exercises and training scenarios
  • Couple technical training efforts with programs focused upon customer service and interpersonal skills thereby helping to foster a well-rounded technician population
  • Maintain database of all current Field Service training materials
  • Work graphic artists to create audiovisual and other training aids
  • Update and modify course contents to reflect any development and changes in the procedures or technology discussed in the course
  • Provide technical assistance and support to visiting instructors and students when necessary, train visiting instructors in correctly using the course materials they have developed
  • Exhibit and enforce safety procedures in the field and at customer sites
  • Create online courses, using multimedia authoring tools
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Associates degree or vocational degree in engineering, electronics, or other applicable field of study
  • Ability to travel as needed to carry out duties of the position – up to 20%
  • Prior experience as a technical trainer/instructor is highly preferred
  • Proven skill set with a variety of computer and software programs including: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Premier Pro, Photo Shop, After Effects and others
  • Preferred to have video creation and editing skills including script writing, editing, storyboarding, and voice overs
  • EH&S expertise and experience; familiarity with OSHA standards and regulations
  • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills
  • General knowledge of lift truck usage and operation
