Champlain College of Vermont's Montreal Campus seeks an Adjunct for a new Substance Designer course for the Fall 2019 semester.
The course will be delivered in English for visiting American students. There will be approximately 8 students in the class in their third year out of four (university level). Classes are held at our Montreal Campus for three hours per week, day or evening. Some flexibility is available for travel or professional commitments. Our classes are professionally focused with a hands-on, workshop style approach. The Fall 2019 semester starts on August 26th and runs until December 13th.
The Procedural Material Development instructor should be an artist that has the ability to teach how to create a variety of physically based materials in Substance Designer, ranging from simple to complex. The materials will be used in Substance Painter and as tiling materials in a game engine. Please submit a resume and link to a portfolio featuring materials created in Substance Designer.
Requirements:
- Expert knowledge of Substance Designer
- Professional background in Game Art & Animation
- Live in the Montreal region
- Legally eligible to work in Canada (Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, valid open work permit)
- Able to pass the mandatory criminal background check
Course Description:
GAA 350 Procedural Material Development
The software used will be Substance Designer.
Students will implement advanced techniques to create believable and aesthetically successful procedural materials for use on 3D models in game engines and 3D painting software.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will:
1. Create aesthetically successful materials for use in physically based rendering engines by implementing industry standard workflows using procedural material creation software.
2. Create efficient materials that can be easily adjusted to create a variety of detail.
3. Analyze professional quality procedural materials to determine what makes them aesthetically successful and apply that knowledge to their own work.
4. Evaluate and critique the procedural materials they create and those created by other artists.
