Responsibilities

The Childbirth Educator (CBE) conducts the educational programs for expectant
parents preparing for childbirth. Adult learning competencies and extensive
maternal child nursing experience will be corner stones in the enactment of this
role.

The Childbirth Educator is accountable for specific prepared childbirth
educational programs. The CBE provides an atmosphere conducive to meeting the
educational and informational needs of the expectant couples in the assigned
case load. The childbirth educator is charged with the responsibility of
identifying factors and characteristics of the class and develop from the formal
teaching plan an individualize plan of instruction for each group.

The Childbirth Educator reports to the L&D Nurse Manager. Accountability
will be measured by performance standards, class evaluations, birth reports,
and/or performance improvement and patient safety activities and will be
summarized in performance evaluation and counseling.

Qualifications

Education
Post high school credit.

Licensure/Certification
Current RN licensure in state of Georgia preferred. Certification in Childbirth Education is preferred (ASPO, ICEA, C/CES, BEST).

Experience
Three years of experience, with one year in the area of adult education, preferred.

Possesses personal qualities and professional techniques enabling her to stimulate the interest of learners, motivate them to constructive action and inculcate sound understandings and skills.

Demonstrated skill in complex interpersonal relationships.

Demonstrated ability to tolerate stress.

Independent and self-motivated.

Demonstrates unusually high enthusiasm, initiative, patience, and positive thinking.

Demonstrates the ability to use audio-visual equipment.

Physical Demands
Standing for long periods - 6-10 hrs. Sitting for extended periods of time. Bending and stooping. Walking for long periods. Lifting of heavy objects. Sensory: Sight to observe students/people. Auditory: to hear students/people. Tactile: to feel students during Lamaze exercises.
