  • Work with the director to organize and implement English instruction to limited English proficient adult students and Adult Basic Education students on location at worksites in Sedgwick and Butler counties. Classes will be offered at a variety of times and days convenient for the employees and employers.
  • Adapt and develop curriculum with employer input for customized curriculum content
  • Implement instructional lessons in ESL or ABE based on student’s proficiency level using content standards for the selected students/employees
  • Integrate technology into lessons
  • Administer formative and summative assessments
  • Create an engaging student centered learning environment at the worksite
  • Maintain contact with employer to apprise them of student/employee progress
  • Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers
  • Recruit employers in the local area, and subsequently recruit employees at the worksite to attend classes
  • Maintain records required for the program

Qualifications

Required knowledge and skills

Thorough knowledge of subject matter, through knowledge of competency based instruction, intermediate computer skills, human relation skills, and flexibility in modifying workload and scheduling to meet demand. Skills are needed in reading, math, listening, speaking and writing, and the ability to create individual study plans based on special needs of students or the individual differences and goals of students.


Required experience

Previous teaching experience with under educated adults ages 18 and over; experience with competency based instructional methods, experience with ESL populations, developmental education experience preferred.


Required educational background

Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field.
