Faculty at Central Baptist College support the College’s mission of transforming lives through education that integrates Christian faith and academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment. This involves quality teaching (as defined in the employee handbook), advising, and communication. Verification of effectiveness will be conducted in the format of student evaluations, peer reviews, course documents and a faculty evaluation conducted by the chair of the department. In addition, faculty provide service to the college and engage in research, scholarship, and professional development activities. During the 9-month contract of employment, faculty members are expected to be available to assist and work with students and respond to departmental and college needs. The teaching load for full-time faculty during the academic year is 15 undergraduate semester hours per semester.

Candidates must also support the Christian identity of the College and demonstrate mature faith, Christian lifestyle, and a strong belief in Baptist doctrine.

Qualifications:

To be credentialed to teach undergraduate courses at Central Baptist College, faculty should (1) possess a master’s or doctorate degree regardless of how many graduate hours they have earned and (2) have completed an appropriate amount of graduate coursework in the discipline they will teach. In addition, they must hold a valid teaching license. For faculty members whose graduate degree is not in their teaching field, they must have earned at least 18 semester hours of credit in the teaching field for it to be considered adequate.

Duties:

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with the course syllabi and a schedule of classes.
  • Engage in development of new and creative instructional materials, including new courses and programs of studies.
  • Assist in keeping the curriculum of the program(s) current.
  • Advise students and ensure the successful completion of their degree program.
  • Post and hold office hours in a physical format.
  • Assist with the departmental assessment efforts and plan.
  • Assist with student recruitment, particularly when low student enrollment is an issue in the program.
  • Research/Scholarship/Professional Development
  • Maintain a current knowledge of advances and innovations in the academic discipline.
  • Engage in scholarly activity related to the discipline, e.g., presentation of papers, serving on panels, publication of articles and books, grant writing, exhibits, participation in seminars, professional practice or consulting, book reviewing and abstracting.

Reporting:

Individual faculty members report to and are responsible to their Department Chair, Division Chair, Vice- President for Academic Affairs, and the College President in ascending order.

Skills Required:

Communication with students, staff and colleagues.
Read academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
Technology skills in LMS, instructional strategies, use of equipment, etc.
Physical abilities to stand/sit for extended periods of time.
Travel to conferences or meetings or to observe student interns.
Move around and across campus.
