Overview
Our Counselor is responsible for planning, coordinating, developing and implementing a professional individual and group counseling program for assigned patients/clients in compliance with Wellpath, facility and correctional healthcare directives.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Current, unrestricted license in state of practice; MA degree in mental health related course of study
Experience:
  • One (1) year experience preferred, but not required; Corrections experience preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Current CPR/BCLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Review patient/client health information, conducts mental health assessment and, as necessary, make recommendations with regard to the patients treatment and housing.
  • Provide personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis in coordination with Administration and other facility programs.
  • Provide direct aid to patients with personal needs or problems, i.e. sickness, injury, family problems, emergencies, etc.
  • Monitor patient/client progress. Coordinates problem cases and point out areas in which guidance and development techniques can be improved. Maintain documentation and records.
  • Recommend and conduct training sessions to develop greater proficiency among facility staff in areas of guidance and social adjustment.
  • Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems. Evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted.
  • Maintain contact with patient/client family, as appropriate. Utilize community resources as needed.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, patients and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Provide assistance and training regarding Suicide Prevention.
  • There may be a requirement to be on call.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
  • Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
  • Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
  • Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
  • Post orders, if applicable, per site contract.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
