This is a part time, 20 hour per week, Mon-Friday position at Layman Way Recovery Center. The counselor will work with individuals who have successfully completed 6 months of residential treatment.

Screening and eligibility will have already been determined, so primary functions include admission into aftercare, meeting individually with clients, documentation, and attendance at scheduled supervision and meetings. Of the 20 hours per week, 16 hours are expected to be reimbursable, with the remaining 4 available for consultation, documentation, and other administrative functions.

POSITION SUMMARY: The outpatient substance abuse counselor will be responsible for managing a case load of clients, providing individual counseling and assessment, and making recommendations for further treatment or services as applicable for adults, aged 18 and older. The counselor will also be responsible for community outreach and engaging referral sources and making our services accessible to those who need it, as directed by the addictions treatment supervisor.

The counselor will have an enhanced understanding of homelessness and poverty as well as working with individuals with co-occurring disorders. It is the responsibility of the counselor to create an environment that is helpful and conducive to client participation and engagement.

Typical counseling sessions last 1 hour, and are offered on a weekly basis for up to 6 months in duration. Additional sessions may be provided as individual needs require.

DUTIES:

  • Will complete screenings for eligibility and intake admission on all eligible individuals
  • Will ensure all individuals enrolled in SA OP meet ASAM level 1 level of care
  • Will oversee all paperwork necessary to enroll Maine Care and grant funded clients into Kepro/Attrezzo system and ensure it is secured for appropriate billing, and meeting deadlines
  • Will provide direct client services via group and individual counseling sessions as necessary to support enrolled clients and deliver required services
  • Will complete necessary assessment forms and BPS history, meeting licensure deadlines
  • Writes an individualized treatment plan with each assigned client, which is then reviewed with the supervisor
  • Reviews all assigned client cases weekly with supervisor
  • Participates in regular treatment team meetings with supervisor, MAT prescriber, Clinical Director and other pertinent members involved in the individuals’ care for case review
  • Ensures all documentation is in accordance with licensure standards
  • Delivers counseling sessions as scheduled
  • Attends weekly staff/supervisory meetings as scheduled
  • Recruits new referring agencies and outreaches to potential clients about program, as directed
  • Carries a case load average of 18-20 active clients
  • Assesses clients on case load individually and as a group to ensure programming fits their needs
  • Makes recommendations for additional services necessary to enhance client learning and engagement in program
  • Completes WITS forms on all in service
  • Completes quarterly reports as directed on services delivered
  • Attends community based meetings, panels, speaking engagements as directed by supervisor
  • Maintains current CADC or LADC in good standing
  • Receives regular, weekly clinical supervision
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/HAZARDS:

  • This position requires walking, standing, sitting, bending, lifting, manipulation, operation of equipment, contact with clients, volunteers, agency staff, and the general public;
  • This position may result in exposure to biomedical hazards (i.e. infectious disease and body waste/discharge) and contact with clients/residents who may, at times in the course of their recovery, become agitated and/or physically aggressive toward staff and others.
  • This position requires client transportation in both personally and agency owned vehicles.

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated oral and written skills;
  • Experience facilitating groups
  • Experience with program development and start up
  • History of working with low income persons;
  • History of working with cultural diversity issues;
  • Organized and able to multi-task without constant supervision
  • Basic understanding of the Maine Care billing system and enrollment services

  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • CADC licensed, LADC preferred
  • Trained in CBT, trauma informed care, and Motivational Interviewing
  • 5 years direct service experience
  • 3 years group facilitation experience
  • CPR/First Aid certified within 6 months of hire
  • Co-occurring treatment/integrated services treatment experience and knowledge
