Summary:
Meets with prospective students to explore educational programs offered by Dixie Technical College. Provides information regarding application processes and program requirements. Coordinates new student admission procedures. Assists with the preparation of advising materials and works with college personnel to maintain updated information. Presents academic information to orientation groups, potential students and parents.
Dixie Tech is a public technical college located in a new state of the art campus in St. George, Utah. The College has 23 programs, nationally accredited by the Council on Occupational Education, which offer certificates in various professions, as well as short term training classes in a variety of fields.
Required Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advise prospective students regarding Dixie Tech Programs. Discuss Labor Market information to help students determine what career path best meets their needs. This includes career advisement and referrals to career exploration sites
- Work with students as they progress through their application and program requirements
- Work with instructors to ensure program information is up-to-date, including grids, program application, textbook lists, checklists, start dates, etc,
- Help with student email account setup, password, etc
- Work with front desk and website application personnel to stay updated on applications and admissions processes
- Assist in managing user and instructor accounts on the scheduling software and coordinate with instructional support to keep calendars and application review times updated
- Work with the Director of Student Services, Cashier, Registrar, Financial Aid Advisors, Instructors and Administrative Assistants to update, maintain, and track student data
- Serve as canvas support personnel for the College
- Oversee and manage the online New Student Orientation
- Track, monitor and work with students as they progress through their program
- Manage the Everfi Training Platform for students (Alcohol Edu and Sexual Assault Prevention)
- Be familiar with student policies, plans and procedures
- Assist in planning and implementing Student Life activities
- Provide tours to prospective students as needed
- Advise students who have received Academic Probation letters
- Attend meetings with sponsoring agencies and caseworkers to coordinate services for sponsored students, as needed
- Attend Dixie Tech faculty and staff meetings and other meetings as assigned
- Serve as a member of the Graduation Committee
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.

Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- 2-3 years experience in academic advisement or related field preferred.
- Communicate with students, staff and colleagues; read academic texts, forms and materials; operate personal computer and audio-visual equipment; stand or sit for up to one to three hours at a time; drive to off-site meetings or conferences; move around campus for tours, classes and meetings.
*An Academic Advisor is NOT a counselor. Students seeking professional counseling will be directed to outside 3rd party options of which the student is financially responsible for.
The position pays $30,000 to $36,000 per year depending upon experience. This is a full-time salaried position that includes generous benefits: medical and dental insurance, employer contributions to Health Savings Account, 403(b), etc.
