Position Summary:
This position provides nutrition counseling and education for students and educates the community of St George’s about nutrition and wellness.
Responsibilities:
- Increase awareness of students’ nutritional needs by consulting with the Saint George’s health care providers (medical staff, counselors, health educators, coaches and athletic trainers) on a regular basis
- Provide personalized nutritional counseling to students, including referrals from Health Services, Dining Services and other departments
- Assess nutrition-related needs of students and establish nutrition program priorities and objectives that optimize available resources
- Communicate with parents as appropriate in situations dealing with nutritional concerns related to medical issues
- Advise and work with athletic trainers and coaches regarding sports nutrition
- Contribute as a health team member to provide individual counseling and outside specialist referral of students with disordered eating concerns
- Evaluate and report concerns regarding standards of quality in nutrition-related health services Dining Services
- Assist students, parents and personnel with dietary concerns; collaborate with dining services director if needed.
- Develop educational nutrition materials for use in the dining halls
- Conduct pertinent in-service trainings for staff/faculty Educational Services
- Provide nutrition-related information and educational programs to students, teachers and groups such as athletic teams, dorm groups, student listeners and classes as requested.
- Participate in selection of educational nutrition-related resources for the Health Education Library and Athletic Training Room
- Serve as a resource for teachers and classes that deal with nutrition-related topics
Skills/Qualifications:
- Registered dietician with licensing in Rhode Island/ College degree in Nutrition or Food Science
- Experience demonstrating effective nutrition counseling, particularly of eating disordered adolescents.
- Experience with the health care system preferred.
- Excellent communication skills in both individual and group environments
- Ability to move to different areas of campus
- Adequate vision to provide assessment
