The School of Biological, Environmental and Earth Sciences at The University of Southern Mississippi is seeking to fill the position of Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor for the 2019-2020 academic year. This is a nine-month, full-time temporary appointment based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, beginning August 19, 2019.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide face-to-face, or online course delivery and instruction, primarily at the freshmen level in major and non-major courses. Coordinate freshman level laboratories.
  • Prepare and submit syllabi, grades and other required course documentation in a timely manner.
  • Communicate course requirements and expectations to students.
  • Coordinate course schedule with other faculty teaching the same course.
  • Assist students with course material as necessary, potentially outside of class time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in biological sciences or closely related field from an accredited university. 18 hours of graduate level coursework in biological sciences. Strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff and faculty from diverse backgrounds, programs and colleges.

Preferred Qualifications
PhD in biology or related field. Experience teaching and mentoring at a university level. Experience with Canvas technology.
