Hawkeye Community College is a comprehensive community college focused on meeting the needs of the community by providing quality, affordable learning experiences for a diverse student body. Hawkeye Community College has more than 50 career and technical programs and liberal arts transfer program. The agriculture and natural resources department is seeking a full-time faculty member to provide high-quality instruction. The primary instructional assignments will include Precision Farming Systems, Ag Computers, Fundamentals of GIS, Farm Business Management, Advanced Precision Farming: Hardware, Foundations of GPS & GIS, and other courses which may be offered by the department. Major responsibilities include planning and guiding the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects for student implementation. Other responsibilities include active participation as a department member with a focus on student learning, facilitating discipline related activities, assessment of student achievement, student academic advising, and department committee assignments. The successful candidate will be committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, distance learning). A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Experience with or commitment to various instructional modalities and curriculum development.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports as requested and required.
  • Formulates and maintains curriculum for assigned courses.
  • Supervises and advises students.
  • Maintain and repair lab equipment
  • Maintains cooperative relationships with the Dean, supervisors, other faculty, the Advisory Committee, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A related bachelor’s or graduate degree; or related associates’ degree or special training and at least 6,000 hours of recent, relevant work experience.
  • Professional work experience with diverse populations.
  • Must demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and skills regarding technical and applied methods of agriculture.
  • Successful experience in agricultural management.
  • Competency and working knowledge of the computer and its application to precision agriculture.
  • Competency and working knowledge of precision agriculture equipment and software.
  • Capacity to teach practical applications and successful team work experience.

PREFERENCES:

  • Successful work experience in Precision Ag.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Full time nine-month contractual position beginning in August of 2019 with comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience.
