Reports To: Quality Assurance or Human Resources Manager

Supervises: No direct supervision of employees.

Directs and trains employees from all departments in a training environment. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the training function including, but not limited to, maintaining Training records in an up-to-date status meeting customer and corporate requirements, acting in the role of "training instructor" for specific training requirements and/or initial training requirements, and overseeing third-party training representatives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Coordinates employee Safety Committee membership, meetings and other Safety Committee requirements including haz-mat and safety training, internal audits and reporting and documentation of these concerns. Responsible for fitting, training and effective use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all areas of the company. Responsible for monitoring new position / new hire and ongoing hearing and vision testing. Acts as point of contact for external agencies and vendors in matters relating to Safety and Haz-Mat including required audits and reporting, and coordinates with internal departments towards remediation of issues and/or concerns.

Job Summary:

Employee has responsibility and authority to perform assigned tasks of developing and conducting programs for employees and interacting with outside agencies and vendors in matters relating to safety and/or haz-mat.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Confers with management, supervisors and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and/or safety knowledge and to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, initiatives and technologies.
  • Coordinates training schedule with the hiring and training demands of Production.
  • Formulates teaching outline and determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Selects or develops teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works.
  • Conducts training sessions covering specified areas such as on-the-job training, refresher training, etc.
  • Tests trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Reports on progress of employees under guidance during training periods.
  • Monitors methods used by employees and makes on the spot corrections.
  • Assists employees with problems concerning "how to" perform specific tasks related to their position.
  • Makes suggestions on improving work procedures in Production areas.
  • Maintains personnel training records and the overall Training Matrix.
  • Coordinates the election and function of Safety Committee members.
  • Interacts with and is point-of-contact for outside regulatory agencies.
  • Does timely and periodic safety and haz-mat reporting as required by external agencies and customer requirements and maintains records of same.
  • Does fitting and training in the correct use of PPE, and maintains a working knowledge of what PPE is required within the company.
  • Organizes and coordinates new hire / new position evaluations and required for hearing and vision, and maintains records of these.
  • Develops strong relationship with all departments to develop Training and Safety materials and receive feedback.
  • Other general Training and Safety duties as assigned by the QA or HR Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous training and composite production experience or two years related training experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical data, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to develop and proof training materials.
  • Ability to speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of employees, and at all levels of management.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to functions independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods while training is taking place, or while working on the floor with operators.

Working Conditions:

Must have the ability to be constantly on the move as necessary to cover the various production areas during on the job training activities.
