Position Summary: The APP will work collaboratively with other APPs, residents, and Ortho surgeons within the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. The APP will be expected to provide outstanding care to patients in the outpatient work injury clinic, covering a variety of Orthopedic complaints and conditions. Clinical duties include seeing new, return, and post-operative patients in addition to preforming preoperative physical examinations. This position will not assist in the operating room. No call is expected with this role. Hours tend to be predictable.
Position Responsibilities:
The APP will be expected to deliver excellent care, preform and interpret diagnostic testing (X-rays, advanced imaging, labs), perform injections, and prescribe, dispense, or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
It is expected that the APP show a willingness to learn, collaborate with a team, and provide cross coverage for the team when needed.
Supervise the care delivered to Work Injury patients.
Perform /order medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures,
Prescribe, dispense, and/or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
Consult/collaborate with other care team members. Use judgment to apply/adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues while influencing others to adopt best practices.
Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms to record treatment for EMR and billing purposes. Improve quality of care by performing chart reviews and participating on performance improvement committees.
Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents. Participate in ongoing research and professional development of self and other staff.
Establish and maintain procedures and systems to ensure staff compliance with policies and standards of care. Initiate corrective action as needed.
Education Required
Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA. A Master’s degree is highly desired.
Experience Requirements
1-3 years of patient care experience gained through education, job experience, or rotations is required.
Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of orthopedic patient care is required.
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment or promoting a diverse environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
Experience working with work injury patients.
Experience working in an orthopedic setting.
