The Department of Residence within the Division of Student Affairs at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Conference Coordinator. The Conference Services Office within the Department of Residence and ISU Dining provides housing, dining, and other services to summer short-term conference groups/camps and long-term academic programs within residence halls, apartment, and dining facilities.

The primary functions of this position include assisting in developing contracts detailing agreed-upon services and payment between the Department of Residence, ISU Dining, and the program sponsor; and communicating information regarding conference services operations and contract obligations to department facilities, residence life, business, dining, and other staff to ensure standard of operations and quality customer service are provided. Other responsibilities of this position include hiring, training, and supervising student conference managers and seasonal student staff; assisting with other aspects of the conference services program including establishing and implementing standards of service and presentation in all conference areas, as well as policies and procedures for seasonal conference desk operations and overnight youth conference/camp coverage in residence halls; and effectively utilizing conference staff to deliver contracted services to assigned conferences.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and organization skills to successfully meet sponsors’ needs, using a changing set of summer building and dining accommodations and seasonal conference staff. Considerable attention to detail and proficiency in use of computer programs is needed to provide accurate and timely information to sponsors and departmental providers. Work commitments during occasional weekends and evenings (peaking during spring and summer) will be required to meet staff training or conference program needs.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 5 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.

Supplemental Required Education and Experience Preferred Education and Experience

Experience in conference or event management in a college or university environment.

Experience which demonstrates planning, organization, and project management skills.

Experience with supervising and training college-age student staff in the customer service field.

Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Hotel/Restaurant Management, Business Management, or related area.

Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
