Manager of Special Education/Educational Diagnostician

FSMA’s Manager of Special Education/Educational Diagnostician is a licensed educator who oversees the special education program while performing the duties of a typical Educational Diagnostician. This staff member will ensure that our caseload of students are served appropriately and that each student’s academic, emotional or behavioral needs are met.

As a Manager of Special Education/Educational Diagnostician, required characteristics include professional attitude and appearance, being highly organized and able to prioritize, an ability to multi-task in a highly visible, fast paced, team oriented environment, and an ability to handle confidential matters and information.

Job Responsibilities: To work with students, staff and families, proactively and reactively, to support children’s special education needs. Support student academic, social and emotional development and work with classroom teachers to develop plans/strategies for student success in the classroom. This may include:

  • Oversight of special education program including students and staff
  • Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for students with special needs
  • Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified special education needs
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement suggestions/strategies for the student's daily activities
  • Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate
  • Provide professional development and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning students with academic or behavior needs
  • Maintain lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services
  • Develop, implement and monitor IEPs for students and take on duties of Educational Diagnostician
  • Participate in weekly Child Study Team meetings and Crisis Team meetings as needed.
  • Participate in RTI cycle meetings
  • Observe and provide feedback for Special Education Teachers through DPAS system (certification can be obtained)

Staff Hours: 8:10 a.m. – 4:10 p.m. (but can be shifted if needed) / 10 days of paid time-off per year that can be used for sick or personal reasons / Please see school calendar (attached) for information about days off during the school year. In addition, to school year, this position also requires 10 work days in the summer.

Salary Information:

Full-Time Teacher Salary (based on years and degree level) plus stipend for summer work and administrative responsibilities.
