• Portland, MaineThe Emergency Psychiatry Service at Maine Medical Center is an interdisciplinary team comprised of Psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Social Workers and Nurses. We provide consultation and treatment services to adults and youth presenting to our Emergency Department. Some patients are assessed in the 6 bed Acute Psychiatry Unit (APU) embedded in our Emergency Department, others in the emergency department proper. Our service is highly valued by our colleagues and stakeholders.
In addition to clinical care, the Emergency Psychiatry Service is a major teaching resource for Maine Medical Center. We offer acute psychiatry experiences for adult psychiatry residents, child & adolescent psychiatry fellows and medical students. We have a culture of continuous quality improvement and our performance in the areas of safety, quality, and satisfaction are consistently excellent.
As an integral member of a growing regional mental health system, the emergency psychiatry attending will mentor our trainees and students and provide consultation for patients with the full spectrum of psychiatric disorders. Physicians are encouraged to apply for a faculty appointment to the Tufts University School of Medicine. Maine Medical Center psychiatrists enjoy the benefits of a flexible call schedule, generous time off and CME days, a substantial CME stipend, retirement plans, and comprehensive health insurance plans.
