PURPOSE:
The Safety Coordinator will assess operations of EPB for safety, health, and regulatory compliance. This position will evaluate training needs, conduct technical training for all job classifications, and will support and provide direction, as appropriate, to the field crews to ensure they are qualified to perform the functions of their position to prevent accidents and reduce risk.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in drafting, participate in, and accept responsibility for the communication of policy changes related to safety and utility work in general.
  • Assist with coordination, scheduling, tracking, administration and delivery of the Apprenticeship Training Programs. Act as primary technical trainer for the Apprentice Program.
  • Develop and maintain database of all rubber goods, testing, and distribution. Coordinate outside vendors regarding rubber goods supply, testing, and distribution.
  • Maintain database and act as the primary contact for vendor(s) supplying Fire Resistant and other safety clothing and equipment.
  • Research, prepare, schedule, deliver, and assist management with Safety Meeting materials and tracking. Track attendance at Safety Meetings and provide reports as necessary.
  • Develop and distribute testing and training materials relative to job classifications.
  • Develop and present training programs with lesson plans on OSHA and DOT regulatory topics.
  • Develop, schedule and perform a regular field crew audit program; track observations as part of performance criteria and provide necessary recommendations for training or action.
  • Develop and present Electrical Safety Training Programs for Fire and Police Departments, Contractors and the Community as needed.
  • Prepare, schedule and conduct New Hire Safety Orientation Training Programs. Develop and present various training programs to employees transferring to new positions.
  • Perform Occupational Health Exposure Monitoring and recommend corrective action.
  • Draft operating procedures and requirements in cooperation with internal managers.
  • Any other duties assigned by management.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Preferred: a minimum of an Associate’s Degree, preferably in a related technical field (e.g. safety, risk management, environmental, engineering, chemistry, etc.); required: a minimum of 4 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of related education / training / experience.
  • Must have a strong safety background working for an electric utility. Must possess, or be willing and able to obtain, within a reasonable time period, a Certified Safety Coordinator, Certified Safety Professional, or ARM certification. Prefer line worker’s experience with extensive background from an electric utility or military.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to participate in and accept responsibility for the communication of policy changes related to safety and utility work in general.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; the ability to use tact and judgment when interacting and corresponding with co-workers, supervisors, customers and governmental agencies and, as appropriate, hold such accountable for enforcement of all internal safety policies and external regulations.
  • Must possess intermediate to advanced PC skills including all Microsoft Office products with special emphasis on Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must have the ability to quickly learn various database programs.
  • Intermediate office skills preferred including the ability to prepare professional written business communications and reports, including strong proofreading skills and filing.
  • Must possess the ability to research topics, regulations, and articles relative to Safety. Must possess exceptional training and presentation skills with engaging and interactive presentations. Must be at ease as they present training to employees, management, and the public on safety and utility related issues.
  • Must possess detailed planning and organizational skills; detail orientation; investigative and analysis abilities.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, CPR/First Aid Instructor status.
  • Must have accident investigative experience and be able to understand and review technical drawings and reports.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have the physical capacity to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb height, type and file, and occasionally kneel/squat, bend/stoop, twist body, crawl, reach above, push/pull, balance, work long hours. Must be able to perform firm grasping with both hands and be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in an office environment as well as outdoors in all weather conditions.
