ROLE of the POSITION

University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health is seeking a Psychiatrist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to join the faculty. The Department of Psychiatry is the home to a successful general psychiatry residency program that recruits 10 new residents per year and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship program.

Clinical practice in the department focuses on consultation-liaison services, outpatient services at Mojave counseling, a multidisciplinary community mental health clinic, and in other public mental health settings. Educational opportunities include working with residents in a clinical and didactic setting, medical school curriculum development and delivery and precepting for third and fourth year medical students.

The Department of Psychiatry in Las Vegas is responsible for the training of approximately 30 Psychiatry residents with approved expansion to 40 residents. The program is affiliated with University Medical Center (UMC) and offers a comprehensive mix of inpatient and ambulatory teaching experiences. The department's goal is to ensure that each resident possesses the knowledge, procedural skills, critical thinking and professionalism required to succeed as a psychiatrist.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires an MD, DO, from an accredited institution and:

  • Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency by the time of hire.
  • Must be ABPN certified in general psychiatry within 2 years of hire date.
  • Must be eligible for an unrestricted Nevada medical license
  • Must obtain an unrestricted Nevada Medical license prior to start date of employment
  • Must possess DEA certification
  • Must obtain an unrestricted Nevada State Board of Pharmacy license prior to start of employment
  • The preferred candidate will have experience working in acute care hospitals or community mental health
  • In addition, the candidate will have experience with resident and student teaching and supervision.
  • As a finalist, you will be subject to a background check.

The ideal candidate must:

  • Supervise psychiatry residents in various settings and engage in curriculum development and didactic teaching of students and residents.
  • Maintain a clinical practice within a multidisciplinary team in a community mental health outpatient setting.
  • Participate in clinical scholarship, mentoring residents in the production of abstracts, and case reports.
  • For those qualified and interested, opportunities in clinical research are available through inter professional collaboration.
  • Demonstrate leadership and conflict resolution skills among people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Participate in service activities in the department and school of medicine that may include committees for resident and student curriculum and various faculty affairs.

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
