Basic Requirements :- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing ( ACEN ) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE ). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- BSN, MSN, PhD in Nursing and ACLS.
- Medical Surgical by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or AMSN or Ambulatory Care by ANCC or other certifications related to the
- position and approved by the VA.

- Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
- Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
- Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
- Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
- Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders, The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. The incumbent who provides care in home settings or other off-site locations may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles.Education

Duties
Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide consultative services on patients referred from other sections of the hospital and/ or affiliated VA outpatient clinics and perform administrative function and other tasks as assigned the Section Chief for Cardiology Service. The NP will provide expertise in the detection and treatment of various heart related diseases.
Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease. The incumbent should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. Incumbent is responsible for work up and referral for heart transplant consideration.
1. Coordinates the care of the Cardiology patients inclusive of assessment, treatment and education
2. Attends sub-specialty clinics including: general cardiology, arrhythmia, pulmonary hypertension, and preventive cardiology while screening consults for appropriate clinics and performing procedures such as Treadmill Stress Testing, ICD and pacemaker interrogations and evaluations
3. Assists in the design/implementation of delivery systems/programs to facilitate the care of Cardiology patients and evaluate effectiveness of studies related to the delivery of care and services to Cardiology patients
4. Participates in cardiology programs as they relate to organizational goals, in performance improvement activities and in-servicing of nurses
5. Monitors for cardiology therapeutic IV infusions (predominantly for pulmonary hypertension patients)
6. Tracks laboratory data to assess tolerability and toxicity of patients receiving pulmonary hypertension medications with high risk of adverse reactions
7. Requests appropriate post-operative diagnostic procedures and consultative services as needed
8. Consults with physician staff and utilize consultation services when appropriate
9. Conducts and evaluates health teaching programs to patients, their families and staff, both individually and in group settings while acting as a consultant to nursing personnel and other disciplines
10. Involved in developing and implementing policies, standards and programs to support and advance the clinical setting
11. Responsible for implementing and maintaining a patient and staff education and training program in conjunction with nurse educators and managers for management of continuous IV pump infusions.
Work Schedule: Anticipated to be Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The specific tour of duty will be determined based on the needs of the service line and the candidate. Some weekend and holiday coverage anticipated.
