Upward Bound Instructors/Tutors are responsible for providing instruction and tutoring to college-bound high school students in specific topic/content areas. Current needed subjects: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Instructors are part-time, temporary, hourly employees. Employment generally runs during a six week period between June and August. Instructors/Tutors will work between 3 to 4 hours per day, either mornings or afternoons. Supervising of field trips is optional and the employee will be paid based on the hourly rate, depending on the length of the specific trip. Positions will be filled according to the specific topical needs of the program. Employees who, in the sole discretion of the College, have provided satisfactory service may be invited to return to the program the following year; however, there is not a guarantee of future employment. Decisions will be made for each position based on factors considered appropriate by management.

Minimum Requirements

1.Bachelor’s degree.
2.Secondary teaching certification in subject to be taught (language arts, foreign language, mathematics).
3.Previous instructional experience at the secondary level.
4.Demonstrated ability in teaching high school students in the specific topic/content area(s) in which the employee will be teaching.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

1.Experience working with disadvantaged students.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Work Schedule

Instructors/Tutors will work between 3 to 4 hours per day either mornings or afternoons.

Anticipated morning hours for English/Language Arts, Math & Science (8:30am – 12:00pm).
