This position provides short-term psychological individual counseling as well as crises management to students. Maintains timely and proper documentation. In addition may provide outreach to the university community. This is a full time, 10 month position (mid-August to mid-June) position.

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)

  • Provide short-term individual counseling (including psychosocial intake evaluations, treatment planning and psychotherapy) to student clients with emotional issues. Provides group and couples therapy when needed.
  • Provides crises intervention and emergency coverage as needed. Provides after hours emergency on-call consultation with other staff.
  • Attends weekly supervision meetings with the Director of Counseling and Wellness Center. Attends bi-weekly CWC staff and Student Affairs staff meetings
  • Upholds all ethical and legal responsibilities as mandated by their professional organization and the State of Connecticut.
  • Maintains timely proper documentation in electronic record system including case notes and consultations.
  • Appropriately communicates and develops professional working relationships with both internal (faculty and staff) and eternal referrals (community agencies, psychiatrists, hospitals).
  • Provide educational outreach/training programs to the university community. Some occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • May provide clinical supervision and training to a master or doctoral level practicum student.

Job Requirements:
  • PhD/PsyD or Master's degree in Clinical or Counseling psychology or related field desired.
  • 3-4 years of counseling experience with a minimum of 2 years of which is college counseling experience
  • Appropriate licensure or license eligible
  • Has or will obtain current malpractice insurance
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population
  • Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
