NTT Writing Instructor, Doctorate of Social Work Program
Rutgers University
• New Brunswick, New JerseyPosition Details
The Rutgers University School of Social Work is seeking to fill a part-time (50%), non-tenure track (NTT) position as a writing instructor to work intensively with doctoral students in a practice-focused doctorate in social work, or DSW. This position is based in the Rutgers School of Social Work, New Brunswick campus. The three-year, DSW Program is primarily a residency program where students come to campus for one three-day weekend a month (8-10 times a year) for face-to-face instruction and students also complete annual, online residences. Throughout the three years, students continuously engage in writing workshops that synthesize the curriculum content, and faculty guide students as they create writing portfolios that lead to publication. Our program structure enables an intellectually stimulating environment consisting of cohorts of enthusiastic, creative students and faculty, and the writing instructor becomes a key member of our intellectual community. For detailed information about the DSW program, see our website, dsw.rutgers.edu.
In place of the traditional dissertation, our students assemble a portfolio of written products: a case study, a qualitative research project, and a digital, Engaged Scholarship Project, and students require writing instruction and assistance for each of these projects.
The appointment is half-time (50%), academic year, and is renewable upon successful evaluation, mutual agreement, availability of funding, and necessity of position. The instructor will be responsible for teaching writing fundamental courses to our students and individually assisting them with their writing on an ongoing basis. The instructor will assist faculty in all other writing instruction components of the DSW program. Administrative responsibilities may include admissions, routine office duties for the successful operation of the overall program, and other duties as assigned.
Note: review of applications will begin June 18, 2019, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
Requirement Qualifications: 1) Masters degree, Ph.D. preferred. Candidates must have writing and composition teaching experience, preferably at the doctoral level.
