Summary

The Safety Manager will report to and work in conjunction with the Training and Safety Director. The primary responsibilities will be to ensure workforce safety compliance with industry standards, OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations, as well as GSM Services safety standards, which often exceed those listed above.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and coordinate safety programs, requirements and regulations to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions.
  • Conduct and coordinate worker training; such as safety regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Routinely visit commercial and residential jobsites, with heavy emphasis on the commercial divisions.
  • Performs safety inspections for jobsites as well as GSM facilities, utilizing the iAuditor platform, sharing results with management and making appropriate recommendations for correction and improvement.
  • Conduct accident investigations.
  • Write appropriate reports following any injury, accident, motor vehicle accident, near miss, etc.
  • Attend Plan of Attack (POA) Meetings with project managers and team leaders to ensure forward planning of jobsite safety requirements.
  • Attend contractor sub-meetings.
  • Lead the safety training during the monthly safety meetings, divisional meetings and at jobsites as required.
  • Recommend and report to Safety Director any and all safety equipment needs, upgrades and additions.
  • Conduct weekly safety orientation with new co-workers to include but not limited to: Personal protective equipment, fall protection, ladder safety, lockout tagout and basic electrical safety, fire prevention and basic fire fighting techniques, safe lifting, slips, trips and falls, housekeeping, etc.

Requirements

  • Clean MVR
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Occupational Safety
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Must have strong communication skills, be able to work well in a team setting, be a self-starter, and be able to handle a lot of information at once.
  • Willingness to attend workshops and courses to stay current with changing laws, regulations, and best practices.

Possess or be willing to work toward obtaining:

  • OSHA 30-hour certification
  • Certifications with construction equipment to include Scissor Lifts, Lulls, and Boom Lifts
  • Certified OSHA 500 Trainer for the purpose of teaching OSHA 10 hour
  • Certified First Aid and CPR Trainer

Physical Demands

To adequately perform the duties of this job the coworker is regularly and routinely required to drive, sit, stand, walk, stoop, reach with hands and arms, hear, and talk. It requires the ability to set up and climb extension ladders, access rooftops, attics and crawlspaces.

Work Environment

  • The work environment will consist of the following:
  • Noise level is usually moderate but will vary occasionally
  • Exposure to the hot and cold weather extremes
  • Exposure to residential jobsites which include attics and crawlspaces
  • Exposure to commercial construction sites to include changing jobsite conditions, rooftops, ladders, scaffolds, mechanical equipment rooms
  • Continual interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Effective, consistent, and constant communication with co-workers, and others is required.

No Compete Agreement

Any coworker performing any type of work relative to that of GSM Services such as HVAC service, equipment installation, sheet metal, ductwork, flashing, roofing, etc. during non-working hours, will be considered to be in direct competition with the company. This will be grounds for termination and prosecution.
