Hours: 40 hrs a week (Hours flexible)

Basic requirements

  • Minimum of 6 months as an employee with Northwest Ambulance
  • Current EMT, RN or Paramedic

POSITION SUMMARY: This position contributes to Northwest Ambulance by assisting the Director / COO, Operations Manager and Human Resourcewith the interview process, administering practicalswith hiring, coordinating and leading new employee training, ongoing BLS training (CBTs) and coordinating event standbys.

Additionally, this position will focus on monitoring and evaluating the competency of all members to ensure they meet the annual requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of a Training Officer and an Emergency Medical Technician in a professional and compassionate manner. Under direction, request or need of the Director / COO, the Training Officer will:

  • Oversee 6-10 FTO’s and develop a training course to ensure high quality and consistent field training
  • Conduct quarterly FTO meetings
  • Assist with and schedule CBT evaluations
  • Provide remedial, refresher and ongoing EMT training
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Dispatch FTOs in scheduling new hire orientation for RNs, EMTs, and dispatchers
  • Perform the classroom portion of new hire training/orientation
  • Teach and evaluate EVAP and ongoing driving issues
  • Ensure all new employees are familiar with local hospitals, understand our response areas and have mapping skills needed to be successful
  • Maintain all training records
  • Participate in interviewee/new hire skill set evaluation by conducting new hire practicals and skill evaluation
  • Perform periodic skills, driving and facility familiarity evaluations for current employees
  • Participate in county EMS drills, training and meetings
  • Maintain current county protocols and implement changes as needed
  • Assist in the review of EPCR’s for completion and accuracy, and coach EMTs and RN’s on any improvements that can be made to EPCR writing skills and documentation
  • Maintain constant communication with the Director, Operation Manager, Human Resources, RN Coordinator, MSO’s and FTO’s via daily detailed emails and weekly/bi-weekly/monthly meetings.
  • Serve as a mentor, role model and educational resource for fellow employees
  • Assist with new hire training packets
  • Ensure new hires are given the tools and education they need to be successful
  • Ensure that all required employee certifications are current and remain current
  • Keep current on training for new equipment, procedures, and techniques
  • Help perform monthly QA/QI for all EMT reports
  • Assist or conduct quarterly BLS CBT’s EMT Responsibilities
  • The Training Officer will be required to fill shifts on BLS and ALS units when needed and available.

Failure to comply with the Company’s Policies and Procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to, and including termination of employment or association with Northwest Ambulance. The Training Officer may access protected health information and other patient information only to the extent that is necessary to complete your job duties. The training officer may only share such information with those who have a need to know specific patient information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other Company operations. The Training Officer is encouraged and expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding the Company’s Policies and Procedures on patient privacy and any observed practices in violation of that Policy to the designated Privacy Officer. The training officer is expected to actively participate in company privacy training and is required to communicate privacy Policy information to co workers, students, patients and others in accordance with Company Policy. The Training Officer must maintain the training, certifications, knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of a driver of ambulance equipment.
