This position will be in the Pre-Kindergarten, or Pre-K 4, classroom working with children who are 4 years old, preparing them for Kindergarten the following year. It will be part-time for the 2019-2020 academic year with the intention of moving to full-time for the 2020-2021 year and beyond. A key element of the upcoming year will be working with the current Pre-K 4 teacher and transitioning to take over full management of the Pre-K 4 program. Hours would be 7:35am-3:45pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays when school is in session. Scheduled teacher workshop days will be required.
The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher first and foremost supports the mission of Ave Maria Academy to form young minds, hearts and souls to love Jesus Christ and develop a character that allows for true Christian leadership. The teacher fulfills the mission of the school by planning, guiding and evaluating the learning process within the framework of the school’s philosophy and curriculum for the pre-kindergarten students. The position provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual growth toward a successful future. The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher carries out their work professionally and with a spirit of initiative, creating an environment of confidence and respect.
Job Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in education or academic discipline. • Valid elementary teaching license from Minnesota Department of Education preferred. • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience preferred • Be an active, practicing Catholic committed to joyfully witnessing the faith to students • Ability to appreciate and communicate a passion for Catholic education • Model a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ and be a Christian role model in speech, actions and attitudes which contribute to the spiritual atmosphere of the school • Enthusiasm and passion for teaching and the ability to convey this to students • Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process • Have experience in classroom management and be able to positively motivate students • Be a joy-filled and creative teacher capable of building an engaging and inspiring pre-kindergarten for students • Proficient in the use of computer technology including Microsoft Office, e-mail and internet. • First-Aid/CPR certification • Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format • Works well independently and with a team • Ability to take initiative, but also take direction • A commitment to the safe and caring environment for children • Be present, ready to work and on time for all scheduled hours • Meet and comply with all OPCY requirements
