The Flight Safety Investigator assists the NTSB Party Coordinator as directed in the event of a catastrophic accident/incident where a formal NTSB investigation has commenced and the party system is established. They assist the SkyWest Airlines liaison to the NTSB for all non-TDA issues (including accidents/incidents where the party system in not activated but a formal NTSB investigation has been established.

Reports to Manager of Flight Safety Investigations
- Creates file reports required by:
- 49 CFR 830.5 Immediate notification of incidents to the NTSB.
- Transportation Safety Board (TSB) Regulations Mandatory Reporting section
- Reporting to the Emergency Command Center (ECC) and deploying to an accident/incident site as detailed in Emergency Response Manual SP 4800.
- Reviewing SCRs and following the SCR process as detailed in Safety Concern Reporting Program SP 4912
- Investigate flight operations accidents/incidents involving SkyWest aircraft.
- Provide accident/incident summaries as directed.
- Complete investigative reports
- Aid in the resolution of top flight safety risk areas through investigation, research, data gathering, analysis, and participation in safety related meetings.
- Assist in the monitoring of all flight safety data sources for hazards and ineffective risk controls.
- Assist in reporting of identified trends
- Investigate and facilitate resolution for all flight safety related safety concern reports.
- Assist in ASAP ERC investigation and other safety investigations
- Investigation of Safety Concern Reports (SCRs) related to flight safety issues.
- Participation in the On-Scene Investigation Team (OSIT)
- Providing notification to the FAA of reportable occurrences as directed by the Manager Flight Safety Investigations.
- Attending safety seminars and industry meetings pertaining to flight safety investigations.
- Maintaining currency on NTSB and applicable FAA and DOT regulations.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge of FAR 121 operations
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Training and experience in airline safety investigation, human factors, and root cause analysis.
- Basic knowledge of IATA, DOT, FAR, Operations Specifications, Advisory Circulars, and NTSB regulations.
- Knowledge of the Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Proficient computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Four year college degree in related fields
Physical and Other Requirements
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
- Must be able to travel regularly to on site investigations, audits, training, and industry conferences
