Instructor: African American Studies and Women’s Studies
The Department of Gender and Race Studies at The University of Alabama is seeking an instructor to fill a one-year renewable instructor position in Women’s Studies, beginning August 16, 2019. The instructorship is non-tenure-earning, but is renewable based on need, funding and performance. Courses to be taught include Introduction to Women’s Studies, Introduction to African American Studies, and Undergraduate and Graduate Interdisciplinary Special Topics courses in the Critical Race Theory and Women’s Studies Fields. Ph.D. in Gender and Women’s Studies or a related field is strongly preferred. Master’s degree required. Evidence of teaching excellence is required. The Gender and Race Studies Department at the University of Alabama was formed in 2009 when the programs in Women’s Studies and African American Studies were brought together in one academic department. Women’s Studies at the University of Alabama is one of the oldest Women’s and Gender Studies programs in the southeastern United States, founded in the mid-1970s. Coursework in African American Studies has been a part of the University of Alabama since 1970. The Department of Gender and Race Studies currently offers an undergraduate minor and an M.A. in Women’s Studies and an undergraduate minor and a major in African American Studies.
