This position is PART-TIME, working less than 29 hours a week.

The Job Challenge Academy is a five month residential program located on Ft. Stewart. The purpose of Job Challenge Academy (JCA) is to take select graduates from one of three Georgia Youth Challenge Academies (YCA) and provide additional training to augment the training received while enrolled in YCA. In addition, to this overarching goal, JCA will continue the training and goals of YCA, using a quasi-military model, and reinforce and build upon the lessons instilled while enrolled at YCA. The primary training offered by JCA is vocational training and related soft skill training designed to prepare students for successful employment or continuation of training upon completion of the program. Between 50 and 100 youth will be enrolled into Job Challenge at one time, as part of a rolling admission. The length of the training program for a youth depends on the trade in which they enroll. The scope of this program is enormous in that it sets out to provide a life-changing opportunity for at-risk youth from across Georgia that will have an impact on them for the rest of their lives.

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides educational and personal counseling, guidance and assessment services to associates at Job Challenge Academy Ft. Stewart;
  • Provides assistance in the social, emotional, educational and vocational development of associates who exhibit complex personal problems and adjustment difficulty;
  • Provides the instruction of life skills and the coordination of supplemental student activities that are designed to improve work habits and to enhance the ability of students to live independently after graduation.
The selected candidate must be willing to work a rotating shift, which may include evenings, weekends or additional hours. Applicant is required to maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition meeting the minimum qualifications have completed three (3) Master’s level courses in counseling (or a related area of study) AND have one (1) year of full-time professional level experience in providing educational/career planning services or counseling;
OR
Applicants who have a graduate degree in counseling or social work from an accredited four-year college or university;
OR
Applicants who possess licensure as a professional counselor from an accredited state or national certifying association.

Further consideration may also be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum or preferred qualifications, also possess a combination of the following:

1. Job experience working with “at-risk” youth
2. Basic computer software usage skills
3. Possession of a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement.

Selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a Georgia criminal records search, a pre-employment drug test (post-hire will be placed in the pool for the State Random Drug Testing Program), AND a post-employment federal background investigation, which includes a national criminal records search.

Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation counseling, social work, or a closely related behavioral or social science field from an accredited college or university AND One year of professional experience in social work, counseling or equivalent areas OR One year of experience at the lower level Rehabilitation Counselor 1 (SSP060) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require specialized certification.
