Douglass Residential College, a part of Rutgers University – New Brunswick, is an innovative undergraduate higher education institution specifically for women. The opportunity to teach with Douglass Residential College is an opportunity to teach within the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies where the course is housed.
Teaching with Douglass is a collaborative and meaningful experience where instructors interact with each other and utilize create meaningful content to deliver to students.
The Global Village is a Living-Learning Community that seeks to build community, interpersonal skills, and knowledge on global issues from a variety of vantage points. The perspective for the course aforementioned is “Creativity House”. This course is part of an academic component of the Global Village that seeks to build student knowledge and support hands on engagement with multiple forms of art including dance, music, visual and applied arts.
- Master’s degree and/or expertise in fine arts, visual arts or closely related field
- Commitment to or experience in Women’s and Gender Studies and the status of women.
- 2-3 years of university level teaching experience including syllabus development and community building within and beyond the classroom setting.
- Experience teaching in a women’s college preferred. Experience working with students in a community-building environment with student programming preferred.
o Teach one 1.5 undergraduate course, Topics in Women’s and Gender Studies (Creativity House) on Mondays 7:15pm-8:35pm
o Meet all course times/dates.
o Attend 2 required workshops, 3 required plenaries
o Plan and prepare lessons.
o Grade assignments within 48 hours and return the grades with comments and rubrics to students via Sakai or related platform.
o Plan and execute one out of class trip.
o Meet with students enrolled in the course as needed.
o Adhere to the common syllabus. Post the syllabus on Sakai before your first class meeting.
o Adhere to course, department, college, and university procedures.
o Maintain up to date grades and records on Sakai or related platform for student access.
o Submit midterm warning grades by the published deadline.
o Submit final grades to the Assistant Dean and/or Douglass Course Director via email and to the University via REGIS 48 hours after your class ends.
o Collaborate with Douglass Residential College and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies as needed.
o Knowledge of online learning platforms such as Campus Labs, Sakai, Canvas, and/or Blackboard preferred.
- Move small boxes.
