Technical Writer II
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 2 years' of professional level experience, or equivalent training and experience
  • Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports
  • Must be highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment, and interact frequently and professionally with project team members, laboratory counterparts, and NNSA management
  • Must be able to effectively cope with conflicting deadlines, changing priorities, frequent interruptions, multiple tasks, and travel to Mercury and other forward locations when necessary
  • Must have advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Access, Excel, Outlook) as well as expertise with Visio and Adobe Illustrator
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
Senior Technical Writer

Responsibilities

Directly supports the U1a Complex Enhancement Project (UCEP) Management team and functionally reports to the Enhanced Capabilities for Subcritical Experiments (ECSE) Program section within the Stewardship Science and Experimentation directorate. UCEP is a capital acquisition project that consists of the necessary infrastructure modifications to prepare the U1a Complex to house and field advanced radiography and other experimental equipment. The Technical Writer will work closely with the UCEP team to develop project documentation that directly supports the project management function and critical decision milestones.
Key Responsibilities:

Technical Writer II:
  • Develops UCEP project documents in accordance with the Department of Energy Order 413.3b, project requirements documents, Company Directives, and organizational plans and policies
  • Develops, organizes, integrates and manages project supporting documents
  • Assist with the development and organization of presentation materials, including graphics, diagrams, pictures, tables, and overall editing and assembly
  • Organizes and maintains project document repositories including a share drive and SharePoint site
  • Provides oversight for project records management and document control including document revision
  • Perform related work as assigned by the ECSE/UCEP Management.

Key Responsibilities

Sr. Technical Writer - in addition to the base responsibilities listed above:

  • Expanded project document development to include ability to conduct comprehensive field interviews of subject matter experts to solicit data
  • Working closely under the direction of the UCEP Documentation lead, take ownership of and drive document reviews to completion
  • Anticipate corrective steps and recommend major updates as part of key project changes or new information
  • Expanded support for presentation development requiring less direction and greater application of direct experience
